Dhaka: Leather Industries of Bangladesh Ltd. will buy leather at fair prices from seasonal vendors from 11 am on Eid day to 11 am the day after Eid. (LIB). Following the instructions of the government, the leather purchase ceremony has been organized at the LIB factory adjacent to the CETP at Hemayetpur in Savar. This is the first time in the country that leather has been purchased at a fair price from seasonal vendors. Aniruddha Kumar Roy, Managing Director of LIB, said that last year there were incidents of seasonal vendors throwing and burning leather in the river without getting a fair price. This time we have made this decision thinking about their misery.
According to a press release issued by LIB, Leather Industries of Bangladesh Limited has taken initiative to procure raw hides of sacrificial animals in a fair and scientific manner on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha.
The Ministry of Commerce has already given permission to LIB for quality collection and export of the country’s raw hides as wet-blue, the statement said. The 100% state-owned Basic Bank has provided overall support and patronage for the development of small and marginal industries related to the leather industry and the development of small and marginalized people.
According to him, besides ensuring fair prices to the small and marginal leather traders of the country, leather will be procured in accordance with the hygienic rules to prevent the Corona epidemic. Prevention measures have also been taken to prevent loss of raw hides to motivate small and marginal leather traders.
The raw hides collected at the LIB factory adjacent to the CETP in the tannery industrial town of Hemayetpur in Savar will be stockpiled and processed.
